Comments:: I served on the Virginia as the chaplain 88-90. Browsing through this page was very nostalgic. I have fond memories of my time on the Virginia, shipmates and places visited. Nothing lasts forever and was sad to see the best ship on the waterfront leave the fleet. A short time after leaving the Virginia I was asked to visit a retired Sailor who was close to death. When he found out I had been on the Virginia he had his wife give me a plaque...a keel laying plaque of the Virgina - a cherished possession.

As OS2 Jordan, I was the CIC Watch Supervisor when the call came to report when on station ready for call for fire. 5 inch 54's were fired BEFORE the Marine Barracks Attack (not after). Comments:: Greetings again to all. Riding with the Patriot Guard (patriotguard.org) now. Riding in honor of fallen heros has brought back memories. There were a few of us playing catch up to the ship in the spring of 91. We got sent to the Brown-n-root in Bahrain. I ended up filling sand bags at an embassy with the Marines on one working party. Then working at ASU sorting mail on another working party. Looking back through my service record none of that week ever got documented. Our girls are growing like weeds. We now have our first grandchild. Still looking for Randy Ellis, Jim Kittle, and Dan Smalt. Hope that you are all well.

I was lucky enough to attend the commissioning of the new VIRGINA in 04 and got to see Capt (Vice Admiral) Davis and Master Chief Wright again. All I can say is "Oh how the NAVY has changed." Comments:: Hey all, Nov 1 79' to Aug 13 82' ("terminal leave") are the dates I was aboard. While reading some of the "sea stories" I realized I was present for some of them. What memories they brought back. One for instance, while on an O/I cruis, during my off duty shift (port & starboard duty) the sea's were really rough, and the ship was hit on the port side by a really large wave, knocking almost everyone in port side racks out of their racks. I suffered a split chin from a brass deck fitting. Other injuries included a broken arm and broken leg! I was an operations specialist 2nd class when I left the ship. Take care everyone "Rosie"
